The Puppets on a string !

Anyone who has worked in a large public body will know how long it can take to get anything done at short notice ! We know that the Metropolitan Police was ready to facilitate the consequences of 'Exposure - the other side of Jimmy Savile'What we don't know is, how long they had been planning their response.  We know that they did not investigate the claims made against Jimmy Savile post October. Could the reason for this be that they were, after all, not really interested in what Jimmy Savile may or may not have done because they already knew all they needed to !

Today a tweet caught my attention - it was made by FACT (Falsely accused carers and Teachers) and concerned payments made by Cardiff Council to seven men following allegations of sexual abuse against a teachers dating back to the 60's and 70's !

What took my interest to begin with was that the council had been making these payments since 2011 by way of an out of court settlement without admitting liability. The teacher, David Leighton Davies was charged and imprisoned for sexual offences against three fifteen year old boys in 1977 and died in 1980 not long after his release !

It is not clear how or what motivated the seven to bring claims against the authority when they did and, maybe I don't need to know, but, it's the timing that interests me, it's the 2011 bit !

I looked back at what else was going on in 2011 and early 2012 and I found this !

On 6 May 2012, the CPS secured convictions in Operation Span in Rochdale, the first case to start a serious debate about grooming and sexual exploitation of young and vulnerable victims. The defendants in that case were found guilty of serious serial sexual abuse, including multiple rapes, and sentences as long as 19 years were imposed on the main protagonists. But the case only succeeded because an earlier decision not to proceed, taken in 2009, was re-examined and reversed.

BLIMEY THAT LAST LINE REMINDS ME OF another CPS decision made in 2009 !

The above is taken from  a statement made by the then DPP Keir Starmer on 6th March 2013 whose header includes the words 'time for a national consensus'. A few paragraphs later he announces

Soon after the CPS review of the Rochdale grooming case, allegations of serial sexual abuse by Jimmy Savile began to circulate. As did other allegations

 http://www.cps.gov.uk/news/articles/the_criminal_justice_response_to_child_sexual_abuse_-_time_for_a_national_consensus/

What ? the JS 'allegations began to circulate' in September 2012 ? Is this guy for real ? Here is a little bit of information about the Rochdale case extracted from the September 2012 review that Starmer refers to.  To say the 'victims' in this case were badly let down is to put it very mildly !!

Here's what happened to 'Susie'

 TWO YEARS later !

NB in May 2011 the Munro Review took place - the same Munro who disagrees with Mandatory Reporting - hold that thought !

Then, sometime between May and October 2011

Mr Starmer's conclusion about the handling of 'Susie's case

Here are some of the participants in the review in September 2012

The NSPCC is nowhere on the list and neither are any of the victims whose voices we are constantly told are being listened to !

Good luck with finding the addendum !

In short, Mr S acknowledges that a certain group of youngsters have been let down.  They are NOT children and they are not adults, they are something in between and that is why they had, up to then, slipped through the non net of child services etc ! We're not told how old 'Susie' is but it's obvious that she is a young teenager possibly 13 or 14 when the abuse began ? Strange how a year later and pregnant she was no longer considered a 'child in need' focus now being placed on her baby instead !

If anyone is still in any doubt that YEWTREE WAS NOTHING WHATSOVER TO DO WITH JIMMY SAVILE consider this :

WHO IS MR STARMER apologising to here ?

I repeat a FACT I have cited several times already.  The Police and the NSPCC spent approx 70 working days to produce it's findings in relation to claims made against Sir Jimmy Savile.  The Television programme was aired in October 2012 some eight months after The Oldie Magazine 'outed' Jimmy and, ONE MONTH after the Rochdale Review was completed !

Meanwhile, in charity childline land Esther Rantzin had this to say about the Cardiff case

ChildLine founder Esther Rantzen said councils should publicise these settlements, saying transparency was "absolutely fundamental" for several reasons.
"One is in the interests of the victims, they want it to be absolutely clear they've been believed and that action has been taken to compensate them for the terrible crimes committed against them.

"But once they hear that people have come forward and been believed this inspires them to come forward.
"That's happened with the Savile victims, we know that, and with other people who are survivors of abuse."

What of the Rochdale victims - who are they suing ?

Lawyer speaks about Rochdale abuse case

The teenage victims of a grooming ring are considering suing social services. They say their local council failed to protect them. Five girls were abused by the gang in Heywood in Rochdale. Nine men were jailed for a total of 77 in May.

  1. From what I've read in blogs written by the folks who had lives in care, the role of "professional social services" in the UK is hiding in plain sight as some kind of major player in their discontent. Despite it being an accepted fact on all sides that something like over 80% is intra-familial abuse, the historical "paedo-ring" allegations all seem loudest in relation to "care-home" scenario's, whether it be be Kincora or Bryn Alyn. Anyone working in the sphere of "state child care" through the thirty years spanning 1970 to 2000 might have an interesting tale to tell about the changes they experienced in those three decades. Much of the historical stuff seems to relate to "children" being imprisoned almost, and often being dealt with very physically. All of this is internal to the "Social Services". Compare that style of state-parenting to those recent Rochdale cases where the "children" were said to be merely making "lifestyle" choices when making themselves available to abuse. The advantage of the latter for the state was that the abuse was done outside, by criminals; not inside by those employed BY the state. Cardiff's hush-payments speak loud.

I found this blog very interesting to read today, although it is from a while ago. This passage in particular caught my attention. The regime of 1989 sounds very different to those of accounts of 1970's "Pindown" and suchlike that I have come across..

"I remember when I first went into Care in 1989, it was magic. I could go the pub most days of the week and nobody would bat an eyelid. Social Services and the police would run around like headless chicken in an ever decreasing maze....my mum, could find me in any pub within a 5-mile radius."

    1. What quote are you quoting from rabbitaway? I've missed something.
Exposure had "Fiona" displaying a whole album of Savile memorabilia. One photo, which seemed to be claiming to be her has been dated as a 1979 fete, which rather buggers the 1974 "Clunk-Click" angle.

    2. Moor, it's just the bloggers musings from the link you attached - here's the full paragraph - quite amusing !

      have now decided

'well he didn't call me back about my special Anything so "fk you jack, think you're alright jack? not for much longer coz who's gonna say I'm lying about consent when there was only 2 of us there jack!?!!" I can prove I was underage, can you prove I was older, JacK!' and you end up with these sad, old, nearly pathetic wrinklies carted off their metaphorical death beds and into their local police station for umpteen interviews, interspersed with an occasional bad cup of tea, about "that pretty young thing 30 years ago,...." back in days of sin, when knights were "in" and DJ's went a'rocking. youth walked past, they had a blast, and now they see....(under age x illegal = rape =) kerchii-iiing...!!!!!

  3. Noticed viz-a-viz that Cardiff £350k ex-gratia payment that £142k was going to the lawyers. Quelle Surprise.

I mulled over when the Savilisation process began in my Tin Hat blogpost.

I have wondered if Williams-Thomas was actually called in by ACPO/NSPCC to make that show, rather than his instigating it. This would explain why the early stories from such as Alan Leake & Sue Thompson, which look like complete fabrications were inserted; and the way Angie/Val were Duncroftians involved in a pretence of being TotP groupies from a decade before. The guy must have felt very confident that his misleading production would be unqueried as to facts, by both police and his fellow-journalists.

  4. Thomas certainly had little to do with Jonesey's first endeavour - even Surrey Police would have nowt to do with him to begin with .... ! There's a lot moor to this than meets the eye, we've always known that - amazing how all the pieces fell into their lap, Jimmy, it would appear dies a just the RIGHT TIME - for them ! "Look folks we really DO CARE about 'victims' we never listened to 'Susie' and we're so sorry and, OH, didn't the CPS drop the Savile investgation in 2009, Great, we can use that, call ITV quick"

    1. It may be that they were just initially seduced by their own propaganda. The CPS were urging them to "believe the victim" and they had "victims". It may have bounced between journalists/police. Williams-Thomas told the cops. At some stage he had a good "in" with them because Jones used him to verify Savile had been investigated. Later the PC cops came back to the journo's and said, "About that Savile thing..."

And so it all began. Who knows, perhaps the higher-ups even believed it at first, on the word of Spindler and his ilk. It's fairly clear that Spindler was kicked upstairs as the whole thing spiralled out of control. The police bureaucracy has to save it's face though and Savile must remain guilty. The same logic applies to the journalists. Maintaining the myth is in everyone's interest now, but there are inevitable consequences in persuading the public to believe all these things that are not true. What is hard to know is how many folk really are taken in and how many just see the whole thing as some "cop/media" bubble that has no bearing on their real life.

MWT contacted Surrey Polis in Dec 2011 - they held out on the information to be released to the press until days before Exposure was aired !

    1. In itself though, this whole process was weird because the entire programme script and details were released to the whole press community in advance of the broadcast. When I actually watched the show it was very much an anti-climax by then because it had nothing to add to what I had already read. The "Exclusive" was anything but exclusive. For the media to share in this way seemed unprecedented very strange to me. They are normally very jealous of their proprietorial rights until broadcast.

The Exposure show was broadcast on October 3rd 2012. On Sepetmber 27 the Daily Mirror had the entire programme leaked to it in advance.

  6. The Daily Mirror - that makes sense given what Connew later said about NOT printing stories about JS in 1994 (the same year Keenan allegedly met and told Rantzin a few stories... !)

Shy Keenan only ever said she spoke to Esther about "rumours" she had heard. Bear in mind that in 1994, she was a young person emerging from care. I'm not clear how she came across Rantzen; presumably via some Childline work aspects. "Rumours" about Jimmy would be presumably be nothing new to Esther. I was moor surprised Shy never told Esther about her stepdad, Stanley Claridge. It was another 6 years before the "A Family Affair" Newsnight expose of him.

When Andrew Neil interviewed Jimmy around the same time, he was clearly pushing at Jimmy about being gay. He keeps mentioning how Jim only has male friends. It shows what a confusion of rumours about Jimmy there were in La-La-Land.

  7. Keenan was introduced to ER by the late Ray Wyre described as a 'child sex offender specialist' in the DM Oct 13th 2012 !
Shy Keenan, 49, who founded Phoenix Survivors, a charity that supports child sex abuse victims and their families, says she heard the rumours and believed she a had a 'duty' to raise the alarm and so told Ms Rantzen after they were introduced through a sex offender specialist.
ER said that she couldn't remember having the conversation !
'I am very disappointed about what this lady has said, I never worked with her.'

She told The Sun: 'I do not believe she ever named Jimmy Savile or any other perpetrator .'
