Just Plain Shite !

I'm can't know what great revelations Dan Davies will bestow on us when his book finally hits the bookshelves, but I do have access to articles he wrote about his 'friend' on and before, October 31st 2011. Here's the first !

Goodness, was/is he really Jimmy's 'official biographer'. One thing he can certainly NOT call himself is a 'friend'.

You can read the rest of the DMail tribute here I'm not copying it although one paragraph stood out for me. He's referring to the cruise Jimmy took him on.

 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2055195/Jimmy-Savile-dead-Rolls-bank-notes-shell-suit-wore-oddness-badge.html#ixzz2N4wJO78T

He was quick to associate himself with Jimmy the same day his death was announced. Three days after Exposure, he tied himself to a very different mast.

But what is the truth behind Davies relationship with Jimmy ? How many times did they actually meet ? Let's hear his version first and then ask the folks who really did know Jimmy best.

In his post-exposure Esquire article (feb 2013) Davies describes interviewing Jimmy for the first time in 2004. That would be for Jack Magazine published in May of that year and even includes part of the earlier piece as an insert. But, this was not his first sight of Savile. No that happened when Davies was a 9 year old boy (in this article that is). He had been in the audience of Jim'll Fix it where Savile had apparently gave him 'the creeps'.

This creepy encounter had apparently kicked started a life long obsession with the man 'scutinising his every move and pronouncement'. He goes on to cite 'THREE big magazine pieces' up to and including 2008. And he maintains that he continued interviewing him right up until his death 'even joining him on a short cruise in on the QE2' (summer 2008).

Reader, are you like me, starting to wonder WHO is the creepy one here especially when you read the following, again in the post exposure Esquire ! 'Having spent my youth telling anyone who listened he was evil incarnate, he succeeded in persuading me away from the belligerence of my younger self'

Let's compare Davies with his younger SELVES shall we ? It's not easy but you can get hold of the 2004 Jack Magazine and June 2008 Esquire. Let's start with the earliest. For some strange reason, Davies' piece DOES NOT include ANY reference to his 9 year old 'self'

Now, bear in mind this is supposed to be a man, a journalist indeed who has poured over everything he has been able to find about JS since the age of ten. It's 2004 that's four years after 'When Louis met Jimmy' famous film was aired on British television. Surely Davies could not have forgotten 'Jim the pill' ?

Davies' 2008 'self' recalls the JFI visit but as a ten year old

Perhaps it was the title of his 2008 Esquire piece that caused his sudden recall of his boyhood brush with Mr Fixer who knows but one thing is definitely NOT TRUE. He definitely did NOT spend a month with Jimmy.

Nice photos though starting with this one of Jim outside the Athenaem Club 25th march 2008

This article is the most useful of the trio because of the facts it relates about the association between the two men. Their first meeting is five years before (actually it was 2004 but hey ... )

Next meeting TWO YEARS later !

The third meeting is, again two years later

He doesn't say WHEN this third meeting took place but it must be 2008 because he says that their fourth meeting takes place in the Athenaeum Club in Pall Mall London (see date on top of photo above).

Their fifth meeting involves a stop over

So here we are up to FIVE meetings between the two men, three within the space of as many months. Did they meet again after the summer of 2008 (the cruise) who knows.

Davies maintains that the Gary Glitter recording was made during a visit to Scarborough in 2009. We have only his word for that. I thought it sounded like a telephone call myself, who knows.

Something I DO KNOW is that whoever else Davies may have spoken to he DID NOT speak to the people CLOSEST to Jimmy Savile. He did NOT contact his two CLOSEST family members or any of his CLOSEST friends. He was certainly NOT Jimmy's 'official biographer' and he is certainly NOT 'the man who knew him BEST'

Dan Davies is the latest in a long line of devious opportunists who have chosen to sabotage our memories of a great man. But that's what he and his kind do isn't it ?

A little bit of Fry and Capurro !

Strewth the cat was certainly unleashed among the pigeons the other night when 'national treasure' (that's what they call you in England before they decide to label you a PREDATORY SEX OFFENDER) Stephen Fry stunned an audience at a LABOUR PARTY FUNDRAISER  with this

Mr Fry doesn't pull any punches, he knows what's been going on in this country and he's not afraid to say it ! I would pay serious money to be able to get in a time machine and be able to see ex DPP Keir Starmer's face as the national treasure continued !

The above is from the Daily Mail maybe they thought they could stir up a bit more hatred by publishing Fry's outburst. If so, that plan has backfired if the BEST RATED COMMENTS are anything to go by !

 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2690107/Fry-stuns-Labour-gala-hits-sex-abuse-investigation-Miliband-rebukes-TV-star-attacks-former-DPP.html

Everything comes to those who wait. The general public are waking up now and nothing and no one can stop the truth escaping from the censorship prison cells wherein it was placed on never ending remand on October 3rd 2012.

Mr Fry is not the first well know celebrity to question the Yewtree witch hunt. Indeed, I had quite forgotten about another BRAVE man who spoke out within weeks of the ATTACK ON SIR JIMMY.

Like any professional comic, Mr Capurro handled his hecklers (see  the comments) with great wit and aplomb.

 http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/scott-capurro/defending-jimmy-savile_b_2302125.html

Scott showed his support for Fry last night with the following tweet

Remembering his brave article, I tweeted him back. I know he saw my response because he retweeted it. Thank you Scott !

Anyone who spoke up for Sir Jimmy Savile back in 2012 was depicted in the press as a bit, well mad. Remember this brave man ?

Mr West defended his exhibition and Jimmy. Well done Sir !

From the Islington Gazette - the link is too long to include here !

At the start of the year I predicted that we would see Jimmy Savile and the word INNOCENT in the same sentence. We are seeing it more and more guys and gals. The game is on as they say ! Our struggle has come a long way ! "Onwards !"

Framing Franey !

One interviewee who contributes the most to Bill's Team is Bob Barber. There are at least a dozen pieces of verbal testimony ascribed to him. We are not told what period he worked there but, it's clear he was a nurse whilst PM was still boss (until 1981) becoming at some point, head of security.

Barber did not like Savile he makes no bones about it. He was NOT happy at his presence in the 70's and he was NOT happy about his role in the task force.

Yes, that was hearsay evidence they managed to include there. Mr Barber is full of tittle tattle and must have enjoyed the opportunity to settle some old grievances. The second extract is from P32 BTW  You may want to join me here !

 https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/323458/Broadmoor_report.pdf

Broadmoor is described not as one hospital but '23 federal institutions' each very much separate from the others. It is suggested that security may not have been as tight on some wings/wards as on others. Barber again supplies this snippet of gossip !

I wonder if Jimmy avoided your ward/s Bob ?

After describing the nasty attitudes displayed by some staff towards what they regarded as 'scum' (patients) the report makes this leap of imagination (top P36)

Did they speak to any of these 'hostile' ex-staff ? So far, no proof of any incidents of looking the other way during abusive/inappropriate behaviour !

What we do have are more examples of the kind of behaviours Jimmy displayed elsewhere; exaggerating, clowning around and, worst of all; wearing a shell suit to someone's wedding !

I almost laughed out loud reading the next first sentence of the following extract. After a preamble of grooming type, predatory behaviours the team make this startling FINDING !

But, at least they admit the fact that most of what they are hearing is 'rumour' and hearsay !

Here is 6.42 make of it what you will. I guess, made up reports are better than none at all !

Bill's team are having none of it choosing one set of staff testimony best suiting their remit as shown by the following

The team cut to the chase on P46 when the era of the Task Force and the subsequent appointment of a new General manager in 1988-89 is put under scrutiny.

Enter Cliff Graham (deceased) the senior Civil servant in charge of Mental Health with the DHSS (Dept of Health and Social Security)

Several pages of finding no evidence of any real or suspected sexual abuse by Savile and we finally get to something that actually DID HAPPEN and it's nothing to do with Jimmy at all. But the man in question was Jimmy's friend. Jimmy got Alan Franey the job as General Manager. HERE WE GO !

P55

In 5 pages Alan Franey's professional personal reputation is torn to shreds. If I were Mr Franey, I would be seeking legal advice with a view to a defamation claim because the authors of this report repeat gossip that appears to have little NO SOLID supporting evidence !

The most disturbing and damaging testimony involves what is referred to on P58 as 'The Hill Case' !

In short Nurse Hill (now dead) is alleged to have engaged in lesbian relationships with patients. She was say the gossips, promoted despite this inappropriate behavour because she was FRIENDLY with Franey who, by implication must have turned a blind eye or worse !

Bear in mind that this is second hand information, in other words gossip. Contradictory gossip at that, because despite the informant (ward Sister) indicating anyone reporting such matters would be ignored, Hill is indeed eventually subjected to a disciplinary process and dismissed.

The authors don't disclose WHICH 'contemporaneous press articles' they used in regard to publicity at the time and they appears frustrated by the lack of first hand evidence now available !

They suspect a cover up and cite more gossip ! I'm on P61 now BTW

And it's not just Franey whose lack of recollection is called into question. The Team is left speculating as to what was the eventual outcome of the case. One possibility being that an 'IRREGULAR PAYMENT' may have been made by the hospital by way of settlement

The authors' verdict : Jimmy is guilty and Franey is too !

Alan Franey repeatedly denies that ANY CLAIMS of ABUSE by Jimmy Savile were reported to him or the hospital management. The evidence backs him up but this FACT is not acceptable to investigators who FAIL to consider all the angles.

This morning I became aware that Steven George (see previous blog post 'Convincing Bill') is/was the daughter of a TORY MP. Moreover he claims that his father (now dead) ABUSED HIM BEFORE SENDING HIM off to BMH to be abused by Savile. Worser than worse, his dad's name MIGHT BE in Dickens' dossier !

 http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/488481/EXCLUSIVE-MP-daughter-sexually-abused

Strange HE never mentioned this in any of his previous (and numerous) interviews. Stranger still, that Bill Kirkup's team did not PICK UP on this in their interviews with 'PATIENT A ? Perhaps he did not tell them. Perhaps he is NOT 'A'. If he isn't let him say so, he has nothing to lose, certainly NOT his anonymity.

Bill should let us know too ! After all, the NHS/Dept of Health will have doubly failed Steven nee Alison Pink if they allowed an already abused child to be abused again in one of their Hospitals ?

As Moor Larkin often says - "I think we should be told ! "

One man who worked at BMH but whose testimony only warranted a few lines about car washing and the like is Don Bennett. Mr Bennett knew Jimmy Savile very well, probably a lot better than most. He was fond of Jimmy and I think it's only fair we hear his voice one more time at least.

Terms of endearment

After discovering the jewel in the crown that was APP 12 of the Pollard Report I made damn sure that one of the first things I did with the BMH Report was to go STRAIGHT to the appendices. I'm so glad I did because I found this little gem. A letter written shortly after Jimmy Savile first visited BMH on FRIDAY 13th September 1968.

Hurrah a FACT, PROOF something tangible at last ! The man who wrote this letter is the late Dr Patrick McGrath (PM) described by his son as 'the tenth and last medical superintendent of what was then called Broadmoor Lunatic Asylum, in 1957.'

So, more or less, everything that I have written about Jimmy's initial involvement appears to be correct. He was asked to come by the patients. The then boss of the institution permitted his visits and, most importantly, monitored them and the effect that they had on the people who he spent his whole life helping; his patients. NOTE that word for future reference folks 'PATIENTS' not PRISONER's, it's important !

So, there's 'Britt' the entertainments officer about whom Jimmy fondly remarks on the back of that record

It also confirms Jimmy's immediate affinity with the patients he met. I hope someone finds that episode of TOTP wherein he gives a secret signal to them. Imagine the joy those otherwise poor souls felt knowing that someone off the telly was actually thinking of them !
I wonder what PM would think about the findings of the report. He sounds like a man of purpose and integrity. He was, after all the real BOSS OF BROADMOOR up until his retirement in 1981. So his authority spanned twelve of the years JS was involved in BM and, seven of the years that Savile was alleged to be at the 'PEAK' of his alleged offending (1966/76).
Whether PM personally disliked JS as his son says, a level of TRUST was built up !
None of the senior folk involved with BM in these early years was available to speak to Bill's team. Most of them if not all, are dead making them easy targets for scapegoating despite the fact that NO OFFICIAL complaints were made about Jimmy Savile whilst he was there.
The testimony provided by various staff members indicates that whilst JS was tolerated by some, many were not happy at all. One thing that the authors of the report make abundantly clear however is that, whether the staff liked Jimmy's presence or not PM's judgement and authority was NEVER CHALLENGED or questioned at the time and this was a fault of the system that prevailed AT THE TIME as well as individuals such as PM who really should have known better !
The bias of the politically correct report makers is evident throughout the document. All patients were subject to harsh treatment and conditions at Broadmoor but it's the women's wards that is of particular interest to them Page 35

The report fails to mention that the same thing happened to the men as part of the admission process. How do I know that ? Well, I have Peter Thompson's book ('Bound for Broadmoor') He entered the institution in 1966. Here's how he describes that first bath !

'I was taken along a highly polished floor to a bathroom on the third floor. Here I was told to strip, while the male nurses present (I later learnt) kept an eye open for any identifying birthmarks or deformity'(p87)

Mr Thompson describes other interesting FACTS about BM at this time. He came up against PM when he challenged the rules in regard to letters ! YES readers, BM patients' letters were subject at this time to censorship and they were only allowed to send TWO PER WEEK !

'Dr McGrath refused to alter the rule. I said that I would approach the management. "I am the management," he told me. (P97)

PT provides quite a bit of information about the conditions and physical layout of the hospital. Overcrowding was a huge problem :
'The dormitory too was over-crowded, and there was a lot of homosexuality going on quite openly. (P100)

The next passage I found quite startling not because of the bomb but the fact that he had to WRITE to the 'chief male nurse' :

'I wrote to the chief male nurse and told him I had reason to believe that a patient was manufacturing a bomb in the hospital' after becoming 'chairman of the Patients' escape committee' !

OK I know I've gone off piste for a while there but I wanted to give you an insider's view of BMH from around the time that Jimmy first appeared. I have not seen any reference to Mr Thompson's useful books anywhere in the report. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong by all means !

One man who had a great deal to say to Bill's team is Bob Barber 'former nurse and head of security' ! And it's not just Jimmy Savile that he slates in his copious testimony. I'll cover what he (and others) has to say not only about the dead but the very much alive Alan Franey !

APOLOGIES FOR THE LAYOUT OF THIS POST. I DON'T KNOW HOW TO REMOVE THESE ANNOYING WHITE BOXES. Any advice will be gratefully accepted ! I will edit IF/when I find out how to fix this ! "Onwards !"
