Inside Broadmoor with Jimmy !

I see that Slater and Gordon are soliciting for more claimants to come forward ! This time, Ms Dux has Broadmoor Hospital in her sights !

Ms Dux, you may recall appeared on a Panorama program last year called 'After Savile - No more secrets' which included a story of a 12 year old girl being raped in a public area of Stoke Mandeville Hospital.  I've blogged about this before, so I won't repeat myself, but you might want to read these blogs posts !

 Ms Dux intimated in the program (produced by Meirion Jones, nephew of the headmistress at Duncroft School from whence the claims about JS first came ) that there was so much more for the public to know about JS in relation to his hospital work ! So, I guess it was inevitable that she followed up her success in the High Court on Wednesday with another call for more 'victims' to come forward

I can't imagine why Ms Dux would believe that there were any more potential claimants out there after all, it's not as if everyone, including former patients of hospitals etc cannot now be unaware of the opportunity that has been provided for their voice to be heard !

Thankfully, the silent majority also have a platform should they decide to start speaking up for Sir Jimmy.  The recent Yewtree trials showed us the importance of character witnesses, so let's start shall we, let's raise our voices and see who can shout the loudest ! I'll start with a story, and that is all it is so far, a story, hearsay evidence of the good that Sir Jimmy did at Broadmoor Hospital.  Hang on to your hats guys and gals, this could be the start of something wonderful !

BTW, this particular story began with an innocuous enough tweet from Barbara Hewson last night !

After further exchanges about the institution's history along with it's current security provisions, the conversation naturally got round to JS.

 The  lady went on !

 

 This lady has more than one story to tell from her meetings with Broadmoor folk !

By way of background information this same lady tells me that she is a showbiz person herself and, whilst she never actually met JS, she does have first hand knowledge of security provisions at the BBC even in the 70's *

Ok, back to Broadmoor, anyone wanting to know moor about the place should check out the video film Ms Hewson intially mentioned, in it I found a layout of the place, it's a big place isn't it !

Obviously, that's an old map, it refers to Broadmoor as a 'Criminal Lunatic Asylum' ! It's a nice film though, the folk who built such institutions obviously had the best of intentions.  Goodness, the Law even said that the building had to have views that were 'uplifting and healthy' !  Broadmoor was described as having "a benign, moral regime and it imposed a regulated day with time for work, leisure activities and, in that manner it put an order into lives that had previously been chaotic"
 
We know that Jimmy Savile was part of a task force established to oversee changes in the regime at the hospital in 1988. Whoever, made the decision that these changes had to be made obviously had the same good intentions as their predecessors !  

Some time ago Moor Larkin mentioned in his blog about how the film 'Inside Broadmoor' made in 1989 as part of the forty Minutes series and featuring Jimmy, appears to have disappeared from public access.  Surely, this film should be available for us all to see, if not, shouldn't we be asking WHY ?

I had some questions to ask the NSPCC and the Police Chiefs, and I did ! First stop, the cops !

Not on the ball are they those Police Chiefs - how many reports called 'Would they actually have believed me' are there ?

I heard nothing more from the cops, but the NSPCC obliged me with moor responses !

Things really started to heat up when I saw the BBC tweet !

'Victims' being "laughed at" where the hell was this in the report ? By the next response 'victims' had become 'participants' !

Sorry, it can be difficult to follow twitter conversations at the best of times, but I think you get the picture of what I'm trying to say !


I always say that there are no such things as coincidence. There is NO way that a report deemed to be important for child protection and written up ready for publication would be delayed for 5 months. I was not the only one asking questions, Channel 5 appeared miffed too but for very different reasons !

 What's going on here then ? BTW, Matt Hopkinson is the is the head of Press for the NSPCC !  Mr Drucker was still not happy, and I thought I'd add my tuppence worth in the hope he might see a possible 'exclusive' in this !

After reporting my concerns about the NSPCC's apparent lack of transparency in regard to the publication of their latest Report, to the Charity Commission, I ended my day, more or less back where I started asking that same question but this time to a firm of solicitors *

There is no such thing as a coincidence, the same day this new/not new report was being used as a weapon against Sir Jimmy Savile, by those who would prosper by establishing his post death guilt, an interesting case was just beginning in the High Court. In the unlikely even that a child or indeed any vulnerable person came to me claiming that they were being mistreated, I certainly would not laugh, and I would certainly listen to them and try to help as best I could, but, do I believe the line that is being spun here by a National Charity, a large firm of Solicitors, and the kow towing enclave that is ACPO ?

No 'actually' - I do not !

The Presumption of Guilt !

 

Everyone has a picture in their minds eye when they think of a place and, for most, the thought of the Central Criminal Court - The Old Bailey, conjures up the iconic image of Lady Justice with her scales in one hand and sword in the other ! This is what that statue is supposed to represent !

 Lady Justice is most often depicted with a set of scales typically suspended from her right hand, upon which she measures the strengths of a case's support and opposition.^{[citation needed]} She is also often seen carrying a double-edged sword in her left hand, symbolizing the power of Reason and Justice, which may be wielded either for or against any party.^{[citation needed]}

Instead of using the Janus approach, many sculptures simply leave out the blindfold altogether. For example, atop the Old Bailey courthouse in London, a statue of Lady Justice stands without a blindfold;^[7] the courthouse brochures explain that this is because Lady Justice was originally not blindfolded, and because her “maidenly form” is supposed to guarantee her impartiality which renders the blindfold redundant.

Up until 1868, the Old Bailey was a site of public execution and above is a photo of 'Dead Man's Walk ' Not a very pleasant experience, for moor reasons than one !

Worse still, up to 1868 you had an audience !


The wealthy could afford to rent 'window boxes' in the galleries that overlooked the gallows, so they could see the hanging without being crushed and enjoy a better view.
Such was the popularity of seeing criminals hang, 28 people died in a crush in 1807 after a crowd grew out of control.

The artist known as 'Banksy' had another image for Lady Justice, he made his own statue and invited the public to view it's unveiling in Clerkinwell in 2004 !

On the morning of the 29th November 2012, an image described as a 'Banksy style mural' appeared just outside the entrance of BBC Televison Centre in Shepherds Bush London !

I guess that this would have been around the time that the Newsnight fiasco was brought to the nations attention by our glorious main stream media. Interestingly enough, the article contains this line !

 However a spokesman for the artist denied it was his handiwork.

I like to believe that Mr Banksy whoever he is has more intelligence than to be fooled by a televison program. More importantly, I hope that Lady Justice does not lose the use of one of her arms. Justice needs all the help it can get, eh Mr Banksy !

 

 

Mandatory Reporting - the big sell !

According to her tweets, Ms Dux of Slater and Gordon Solicitors will be on the radio tomorrow night !

The person retweeting Ms Dux's message is Rachel Johnson a journalist and author of the following article in todays Daily Mail newspaper !

I only became aware of this article because of this !

 I feel very uncomfortable with this article on a number of levels, the first being the fact that it refers to a case that is STILL in progress, indeed the trial is BEING HEARD with a verdict expected in the nest few days !

But let’s pause to recap where we are on the showbiz trial front: Freddie Starr, Paul Gambaccini and Jimmy Tarbuck remain on bail, Bill Roache and Michael Le Vell have been acquitted, Max Clifford and Rolf Harris are awaiting trial, and the Dave Lee Travis trial is ongoing.

The 'showbiz trial front' ? This is NOT a game Ms Johnson, these men's lives will never be the same again.

Perhaps Ms Johnson means well, she is, after all, interested in 'ordinary women' and the negative effect high profile acquitals may have on any potential case/claim they may have ?

Was it 'ordinary women' who attended the prep schools Ms Dux refers to later in the article ? I don't remember the last time I heard of a lass from Barking reminising about her Tina Brown's Schooldays !

Ms Johnson swiftly responded to the above tweet which in turn, led to an interesting exchange !

Not wishing to confuse the reader, my response at 3m, is my attempt to bring Sir Jimmy into the exchange. Ms Dux says the following in the mail


‘One person coming forward isn’t enough,’ she says. ‘You need documentary evidence, a past conviction, for courts to find evidence cogent.’ 

Ms Dux appeared to be a tad put out by our questioning !

 Ms Dux has not as yet, responded to the bottom tweet - perhaps she will publish the dated letter before she takes to the airwaves tomorrow evening !

Goodness, remember this great TV series from the 70's ? I do, because it was on nearly every time I went home from school for my dinner (we couldn't afford free school dinners !!!).

The interesting thing about this court room drama was, that, whilst the cases were fictional, the Jurors were real - if you know what I mean. However, one thing that I did not realise until now, was that two endings were rehearsed!

 A court case in the crown court of the fictional town of Fulchester would typically be played out over three afternoons in half-hour episodes and the most frequent format was for the prosecution case to be presented in the first two episodes and the defence in the third, although there were some later, brief variations. Although those involved in the case were actors, the jury was made up of members of the general public from the immediate Granada Television franchise area taken from the electoral register and eligible for real jury service: it was this jury alone which decided the verdict. Indeed, production publicity of the time stated that, for many of the scripts, two endings were written and rehearsed to cope with the jury's independent decision which was delivered for the first time, as in a real court case, when the foreman was asked by the actor playing the judge, while the programme's recording progressed. However, the course of some cases would lead the jury being directed to return "not guilty" verdicts.

Our Angel trumps your demon !

The above comes from a newspaper article from the 2nd November 2004 TWELVE YEARS AFTER nineteen year old Emma Bowes Romanelli was given her good and bad news by a doctor in Stoke Mandevile Hospital ! This and the following article accompanied the release of Emma's book - a truly remarkable story !

 'This week sees the publication of Bowes Romanelli's book, Between Angels & Demons, a moving and unexpectedly funny account of her battle against leukaemia and her determination to take up her place at Oxford, halfway through her chemotherapy treatment.'

'The former broadcaster Jimmy Savile, an active supporter of Stoke Mandeville Hospital, took the captivating teenager under his wing, organising days out for her and introducing her to the Duchess of York. Both became friends: the Duchess sent a basket of flowers to her wedding in 1995, Savile was a regular visitor to her family home, and Between Angels & Demons contains contributions from them.
"The great thing about Jimmy was that he introduced me to the idea of living with cancer, rather than dying from it. We had such a special rapport, and still do."

I have only very recently come across Emma's story via the Telegraph article.  I have not seen ANY reference to this lady anywhere since October 2012.  I found out why when I read her book.  She writes with genuine warmth and admiration for the man she often simply refers to as 'Jim' !

I

Emma was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL) a cancer of the immune system.  Her condition was not rare but the fact that she got it 12 years after most children contract it made her chances of survival almost NIL !  Three weeks after being admitted to Ward 1X of Stoke Mandeville Hospital whilst enduring treatment that caused her to feel as though her body had been 'turned inside out' she made her first acquaintance with 'Mr Fix it' !

Jimmy was held in great esteem by the staff and patients alike at SMH so much so that, whilst other visitors to Emma were made to wear special protective garments by way of infection control, he was not !

The visit was a special one - it was just for Emma

The visit caused a good deal of excitement for the nursing staff too, who were 'eager' to witness the youngsters reaction ! It would not be the last !

 After that first visit Jimmy left Emma his private phone number with a nurse which 'although scrawled haphazardly on an unassuming scrap of paper, the number was clearly worth more than it's weight in gold if the sense of ceremony and "cat that got the cream ishness with which it was purveyed to my hospital bedside that morning had been anything to go by'

Emma called Jimmy who told her that he had a 'job' for her at the hospital, is she felt well enough. This immediately appealed to her as a way of giving something back 'for the privilege of being alive' despite all her suffering. Jimmy had led her to believe that she would be helping surprise a young paraplegic woman in another part of the hospital.  Instead, the Duchess of York appeared as a surprise for HER !

Thereafter followed other surprises including a seat near the Duchess at the World Wheelchair Olympic Games, an event that had been established at Stoke Mandeville decades before ! Emma had already met another inspirational man in the shape of Dr Michael Rogers who became disabled at the age of 23 as a result of a virus which left him paralyzed from the kneck down and only able to control his wheelchair with his chin.  Emma referred to Michael her and Jimmy as 'the three muskateers' such was their bond !


Emma is a devout christian 'God is my friend' she says early in her book.  She describes one night when she was rushed back to hospital after a short period at home 'bourne on angels' wings my astonishing mother flew through the night'.  Her 'demons' were not just the cells that were attacking her blood but the 'poisonous syringe' that caused her so much agony and pain.  Her agonies were not merely physical either as one side effect of the drugs she had to endure was what is known as 'steroid psychosis' episodes of which saw her behaviour become uncontrollable.

Emma took on her 'demons' and won.  She got to Oxford University just a year after her diagnosis.  The same year she met her husband to be and, eleven years later she wrote her book, I know no more about her post 2004 but here's what Jimmy had to say about her the same year 

It is ironic that the same year Sir Jimmy met Emma, Valerie Sinason was, she says talking to a woman making claims about Satanic abuse in Stoke Mandeville Hospital !
