OK, let's get this done. Next week the BBC* are finally going to Broadcast what they describe as a "factual drama" on the life of Sir Jimmy Savile called : "The Reckoning". Apparently the writer started writing it in 2013 or 14, I forget, filming completed in 2022, but transmission was delayed for various reasons, none of which interest me.
What does very much interest me is this :
I haven't been able to find a full cast list for TR, but apparently this is Steve Coogan (Jimmy Savile) and Gemma Jones (Agnes his mother).
His mother - whom millions of people knew as 'The Duchess' J.S's pet name for her back then and who had not just one child, but seven*. Those children had children themselves, as did JS's siblings and many of these people are still alive and apparently, not ONE of them was contacted by ITV, save an email that ended thus :
I had to make the image extra large so you could read it.
Read it and try to imagine yourself in the position of the recipient of this - someone who knew SJS all their life, ran marathons with him, appeared beside him in many press photographs, someone who loved him and - more importantly, someone who still loves him, whose voice has been silenced as have all but one or two of JS's friends and family. Those who knew him best, not some hack, nonentity, who latched onto the man whilst he was alive, hero-worshipped him (he was desperate to get an invite to the funeral), only to jump on the first bandwagon that came along a year later, writing a book full of the nonsense peddled by the media posthumously, now being regurgitated in this factual drama.

But back to the factual drama : as mentioned earlier, I don't have a complete cast list for TR. I suspect IMDB has this wrong - who the hell are any of these people after Steve Coogan ?
The next lot include one BBC bod, so maybe there's mileage in this (I doubt it).

But, what the hell is this ? Is this alleged incident really featured ?
My source for these photos, is an article published two years ago, which - despite getting the BBC and ITV (as the makers of TR) mixed up, provide a useful link to the alleged source of the scenes depicted : a newspaper article from 2016. The contents of which (per the alleged attacks on two teenage girls) sound about as believable as Carl Beech's wasps !

How strange :The BBC commissions ITV to make a programme so that they can broadcast it ? Only in this day and age folks. Only in this one ! I'd laugh, but there's nothing funny about it.

DeletePaedophilic child abuse and sexual exploitation of young children are vile crimes but I don't feel the need to repeatedly emphasise it or loudly go round proclaiming my objection to such conduct since I consider it should be obvious to any sane person that such things are vile and objectionable. Btw Tom (just in case you hadn’t realised), after Savile’s death in 2011, hundreds of his victims came forward. The public eventually learned that one of Britain’s most famous light entertainment stars was also one of the country’s most prolific paedophiles. His crimes date back to the 1950s.

I have never said that Jimmy Savile is an innocent man. I think you've misunderstood. There is such a thing as listening to people and keeping an open mind about things. Yes, we should listen to complainants, but we should also hear the other side and consider whether a case has been made out and proven.
DeleteI'm afraid the fact that hundreds of people came forward after Savile's death is entirely unconvincing. We would be just as unconvincing had it happened before his death. It is not evidence. The legal reform of some years ago that removed the rule against corroborative incrimination was very wrong because it further undermined the presumption of innocence and burden of proof - which are defences against tyranny.
I am unimpressed by your comments and unmoved by your sickly, mawkish appeals to sentiment. You ask me to forgive you for your comments. I will not do so. ReplyDeleteTo explain Jimmy Savile's crimes as evil or wicked misses the mark. The important lesson is that he was deeply disturbed, as well as disturbing. Some of the psychology behind his abusive behaviour – which was set out in more, shocking detail today – can be pieced together from its pattern. Many of the assaults were without warning. He would suddenly place his hand somewhere he should not, plant his mouth on unsuspecting lips. Frequently this was done in public places. The root of such intrusion is projection.

We sometimes employ each other as emotional dustbins: you are feeling depressed or angry and without thinking about it, you do something to make someone else feel those things. To understand what Savile was feeling when he groped in public, hear how his victims felt – humiliated, powerless, frightened, finally angry. Those will have been the emotions he lived with and, more or less, urgently needed to extrude.

ReplyDeleteMy understanding is that, somewhat unusually, the production company is ITV but the drama is funded, and will be broadcast by, the BBC. Perhaps double check and correct your opening sentence.

Evidence from Savile's victims at Stoke Mandeville suggest his shocking behaviour was an "open secret" as early as 1973 after he started working at the Buckinghamshire hospital as a voluntary porter "with no checks, monitoring or supervision in place".
Two witnesses told investigators they had heard Savile was having sex with corpses, although no further evidence to support the allegation was found.
Previous reports into Savile's abuse heard "macabre accounts" of claims the now-dead TV and radio presenter performed sex acts on dead bodies in the mortuary at Leeds General Infirmary (LGI).
Among 60 victims of the depraved entertainer at Stoke Mandeville were children as young as eight, a pregnant mother in her 20s in hospital with her sick son and a 19-year-old paralysed woman in a wheelchair.
A former nurse told investigators how she was warned about a man believed to be Jimmy Savile in the mortuary at Leeds General Infirmary (LGI) as long ago as 1954.
The woman told investigators that as a trainee nurse in that year she was heading down to the hospital's mortuary when the ward sister told her "to be careful and come back if the pink-haired man is there".
The report said: "TB recalls that when she went to the mortuary, 'he was there so I turned round and went back to the ward'."
It said: "When we asked who TB thought the 'pink-haired man' was, TB was convinced that he was Savile."
Another witness remembers Savile taking the body of a four-year-old child to the mortuary in a pram one night in the 1970s.
A pram had to be used as the child was too big for the trolley usually used for children and too small for the one normally used for adults.
The night nursing officer, who has not been named, made the arrangement and Savile collected the body on his own.
Dr Sue Proctor, who led the main investigation into Savile's abuse at the Leeds General Iinfirmary, told a press conference last year that Savile claimed that large rings he wore were "made from the glass eyes of dead bodies at the mortuary".
Savile's other victims at the LGI ranged from five-year-old children to pensioners and included men, women, boys and girls.
A 23-year-old radiographer in the late 1970s at the hospital, known as victim 19, said she often saw Savile walking around the hospital at night, assisting the porters.
The report added: "A nurse that victim 19 spoke to said that Savile would often push his way into their rooms and that he was known to be a dirty old man. No one ever indicated that Savile had actually abused them; he was regarded as a pain, nothing more."
The woman also noted that "Savile's brother (uncertain which one) used to wander around the hospital also dressed in a tracksuit. The common view was that he cut a rather pathetic figure".

I have just seen these comments from Anonymous who appears to be unhinged and who is parroting nonsense picked up from the mainstream media. Anonymous states that 'after Savile’s death in 2011, hundreds of his victims came forward'. This is incorrect, no victims came forward at this time. The 'victims' only came forward after the ITV Exposure programme broadcast in October 2012.
